About me

I’m with you on this journey.

Mike McDonald, LMFT, male therapist (he/him/his) in Roseville, CA

You’re tired of just going through the motions in life. You’re ready to believe in yourself again and reconnect to what’s important you.

If the old ways of doing things aren’t working anymore, I’m here to help you begin something new.

I know you’re here because, put simply, you want to feel better. But even more than that, you want to stay better—to feel confident that, no matter what life may throw your way in the future, you’ll be able to handle it.

That’s what therapy with me is all about: giving you the skills & insight you need to experience greater purpose, joy, and fulfillment for years to come.

My approach

Patient. Insightful. Consistent.

I believe in your innate value as a human: someone with unique experiences, real emotions, and valid perspectives. That means everything I do will focus on honoring you as an individual, never pushing to places you aren’t ready or discounting your feelings or experiences.

Clients describe me as both kind and intuitive. If I feel there’s something we haven’t talked about or should address, I won’t shy away from bringing it up so we can flesh it out together. You aren’t just talking “to” me—I view myself as an active participant in our work together.

I also know how powerful it can be to feel like you can really, truly trust someone. As your therapist, I’m committed to being a steady, reliable partner on your journey toward greater joy and fulfillment in life. I believe you deserve this consistency from the moment you reach out to me until our work together ends.

My methods

I’m trained in a number of therapeutic approaches, and we’ll work together to find the right fit for you.

  • EMDR is a powerful method for treating PTSD, trauma, anxiety, and other challenges. It is based on your body’s incomplete processing of difficult experiences. By “re-processing” these experiences, you can become desensitized to their impacts, resolve negative beliefs about yourself, and experience more peace and joy in day-to-day life.

  • CBT is a structured form of talk therapy designed to treat depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other mental health disorders. It helps you become aware of the thoughts, emotions, and beliefs surrounding the challenges you’re facing and identify negative thinking. This awareness can then help you choose to think, feel, and respond differently to difficult circumstances.
